QSO 340 Module Three Case Scenario Guidelines and Rubric Overview: For this discussion, you will review a short case scenario (XYZ Company: StrikeZone) and propose an alternative methodology for the project manager to implement. XYZ Company: StrikeZone In July 2016, John Smith, a project manager at XYZ Company with 30 years of experience, was tasked with developing an innovative software program called StrikeZone that can improve the accuracy of detecting strikes and balls during baseball games. John was informed by upper management that a meeting with the client, the Baseball Championship League (BCL), was scheduled for February 20, 2017, to discuss the StrikeZone prototype. With this news, John quickly assembled a team with a wide range of expertise and developed a sequential schedule. The project schedule included the following major tasks: determine the software requirements, design, code test, system test, address issues with software, and deliver the prototype. After meeting with various departments and applicable staff, John assigned a duration for each task and reiterated to the team that the tasks would be performed in order over one cycle. Over the course of the next six months, the design and code tests were each delayed by a month, which caused John to significantly shorten the time for addressing issues with software. In addition, the meeting with BCL had to be postponed two weeks. In March of 2017, the meeting took place and the BCL executive team voiced several concerns: They weren’t convinced that the StrikeZone prototype was consistent with its overall goals and vision. However, John was able to negotiate for another six months to revise the prototype. On his way back to XYZ headquarters, John decided that a different methodology should be implemented moving forward (with the assistance of a consultant if necessary). John needed to decide which methodology to propose using before he briefed upper management on the path forward. Prompt: After reading the case scenario, address the following:  Identify and define the methodology that the project manager used in the case scenario.  Propose an alternative methodology that John should use moving forward. In general, what are the benefits of using the proposed methodology? In addition to the methodologies discussed in the course material, feel free to research additional methodologies to choose from.  Provide two examples of how the proposed alternative methodology could help John produce a prototype on time and aligned with BCL’s goals and vision. In your responses to your peers, address the following:  Do you agree with their assessment of the methodology that was used in the case scenario? Why or why not?  Summarize how this methodology could be applied in your present profession or even outside of work. Requirements for Discussion Board Assignments Students are required to post one (1) initial post and to follow up with at least two (2) response posts for each discussion board assignment. For your initial post (1), you must do the following:  Compose a post of one to two paragraphs.  Complete the initial post by Thursday at 11:59 p.m. of your local time zone.  Take into consideration material such as course content and other discussion boards from the current module and previous modules, when appropriate (make sure you are using proper citation methods for your discipline when referencing scholarly or popular resources). For your response posts (2), you must do the following:  Reply to at least two different classmates outside of your own initial post thread.  Complete the two response posts by Sunday at 11:59 p.m. of your local time zone.  Demonstrate more depth and thought than simply stating that “I agree” or “You are wrong.” Guidance is provided for you in the prompt above.
