Legislation Grid and Testimony:

Assignment: Legislation Grid and Testimony/Advocacy Statement

As a nurse, how often have you thought to yourself,  If I had anything to do about it, things would work a little differently? Increasingly, nurses are beginning to realize that they do, in fact, have a role and a voice.

Many nurses encounter daily experiences that motivate them to take on an advocacy role in hopes of impacting policies, laws, or regulations that impact healthcare issues of interest. Of course, doing so means entering the less familiar world of policy and politics. While many nurses do not initially feel prepared to operate in this space effectively, the reward is the opportunity to shape and influence future health policy.

To Prepare:

· Select a bill that has been proposed (not one that has been enacted) using the congressional websites provided in the Learning Resources.

The Assignment: (1- to 2-page Legislation Grid; 1-page Legislation Testimony/Advocacy Statement)

Be sure to add a title page, an introduction, purpose statement, and a conclusion. This is an APA paper.

Part 1: Legislation Grid

Based on the health-related bill (proposed, not enacted) you selected, complete the Legislation Grid Template. Be sure to address the following:

· Determine the legislative intent of the bill you have reviewed.

· Identify the proponents/opponents of the bill.

· Identify the target populations addressed by the bill.

· Where in the process is the bill currently? Is it in hearings or committees?

Part 2: Legislation Testimony/Advocacy Statement

Based on the health-related bill you selected, develop a 1-page Legislation Testimony/Advocacy Statement that addresses the following:

· Advocate a position for the bill you selected and write testimony in support of your position.

· Explain how the social determinants of income, age, education, or gender affect this legislation.

· Describe how you would address the opponent to your position. Be specific and provide examples.

· At least 2 outside resources and 2-3 course specific resources are used.

Pandemics and Income Inequality:

Previous assignment.

Annotated Bibliography: Pandemics and Income Inequality

Esseau-Thomas, Chrys Galarraga and Khalifa Sherif. “Epidemics, pandemics and income

inequality” Health Economics Review (2022) 12:7

Esseau-Thomas et al. (2021) are credible authors in health economic reviews with

significant expertise, knowledge, and experience concerning health impacts on

economic presentation. In the article, the authors investigated the impacts of epidemics

and pandemics on income levels for countries globally for the last two decades of the

century. Specifically, the authors employed a model to the demonstrated association

between epidemic and pandemic of income quality, acknowledging the Gini coefficient

of a dummy variable that indicates the occurrence of an epidemic or a pandemic in a

country in a given year and the number of deaths per 100,000. Specifically, the authors

employed Three-Stage-Least-Squares estimation to conduct a cross-country analysis of

the impacts of the pandemic on the quality of income. According to the article

outcomes, there is a significant relationship between the Covid-19 pandemic and quality

income, with significant quality reduction amid such a pandemic. Fundamentally, the

authors concluded that pandemic occurrences and outcomes have a significant positive

correlation with quality income. Similarly, in a study to investigate the impacts of the

pandemic on income quality, the article concepts will provide an effective arena for

knowledge expansion and a foundation to support the existing impact of a pandemic on

income quality globally.

Davide Furceri, Prakash Loungani, Jonathan D. Ostry, and Pietro Pizzuto.” The Rise in

Inequality after Pandemics: Can Fiscal Support Play a Mitigating Role?” IMF Working

paper. 2021

Financial consolidation is one critical aspect that requires practical discussion and

implementation amid pandemics to create a platform for economic and financial

recovery. In the article, the authors, Davide et al. (2021) with significant knowledge,

experience, and authorial authority in the IMF working paper have to provide an in-

depth paper addressing the extent of fiscal consolidation in the years following the onset

of these pandemics has played an important role in determining the extent of the

increase in inequality. Specifically, the article accommodates three notable pandemics

of the century including SARS, H1N1, MERS, Ebola, and Zika that have created an

increased economic and income inequality in a population. According to the results

from the government’s fiscal balance, health expenditures, and redistribution there was

an increase in the Gini measure indicating an increase in income inequality due to the

pandemics. Furthermore, the authors submitted that the Covid-19 pandemic impacts on

income inequality are likely to increase due to lacking strong fiscal policies to

counteract the negative impact of Covid-19. Finally, the data from IMF 2020; Stiglitz

2020; Sandbu 2020b), demonstrated the fundamental implementation of financial

policies and practices amid the pandemic and its relationship with economic and income

qualities. Similarly, the article is relevant in providing effective and real-time

information on the impacts of the pandemic on income quality and significant

articulation of the relevant financial policies to manage income quality. Thus, the article

will be underpinning an understanding of the pandemic and income inequality and,

pragmatic solutions.

Chen, Tiejun Gozgor, Giray and Kwong Giray.” Pandemics and Income Inequality: What Do

the Data Tell for the Globalization Era? Front. Public Health”.2021

The use of the globalization era and data is critical for data-driven decisions in all

aspects of life. In the article, the author, Chen et al. (2021) conducted research to

investigate the effects of pandemics uncertainty on income inequality, considering the

new measure of pandemics uncertainty, the World Pandemic Discussion Index (WPDI),

and the post-tax (net) Gini coefficient, accommodating the panel data of 141 countries

from 1996 to 2020. Fundamentally, the outcome of the research indicated that the

Feasible General Least Squares estimations of the posited negative relationship with

income inequalities in 34 OECD economies. The researchers concluded that the

analysis is critical in considering models, controls, and various analysis

implementations. Similarly, the article is relevant for effective use in the research to

determine the relationship between pandemics and income inequality accommodating

globalization era data and implications. Thus, the study will provide an effective

articulation of the impacts of pandemics on income inequality, accommodating

fundamental articulation of global perspectives and implications.

Academic Performance

Academic Performance

Academic Performance:

Barbara,

Performance can be used as a DV but make sure to define what you mean (how you are measuring) performance and have it in the RQ.  For example, is it academic performance (GPA) or some other type of performance? And how would you link deviance to performance (is there a cut-off?). You have options but just make sure to specify exactly how you are using the term and how you will measure it and if it is different between your groups (if you use groups).  It seems like you might have too many variables in one RQ.

Note what you have in your RQ:

What are the economic and social impacts (how?) that ADHD has on schools, families, the workforce, and the health system?

Variables

-economic impact (need measurement)

-social impact (need measurement)

Across four sample populations (IV): school, family, workforce, health system (note these groups would not be easy to compare to each other on the same DV)

See if you can fine-tune your RQ a bit to zoom in on one IV (can be groups or continuous) and one measurable DV.

What is the item that stood out to you, and why

The emotional aspect is essential in our daily activities as it significantly functions our existence. The article I read provided research, findings, and a conclusion on emotion. It gave positive and negative aspects of emotion. Some positive emotional parts are impression, intimacy, and influence—the element of intimacy aid an individual in acquiring their bonds with others. The influence and impression function is based on the information others get from expressing positive emotion. (Cosmides (2018). Positive information can be amicably used in the social context to achieve our goals and maintain social standards that motivate others to achieve their goals. Conversely, negative emotions can result in hatred that may make people distance themselves from others.

What did the authors of the study you selected examine in their research? What did they hypothesize and why (rationale)?

In the article, the author examined emotions’ role in success. He stated that emotion plays an enormous role in the production of success. It helps an individual not only address but also overcome the problem that may arise on their way. In texture, an element of fear may appear, enabling an individual to have an adaptive mechanism, thus escaping from a disaster. The author of the article hypotheses that emotion forms and maintains a social relationship. (Cosmides (2018). He also believes that feeling can establish and maintain a social position concerning others by generating self-esteem. The rationale that the author gives is that emotion help in either increasing or reducing bond with others. If there is a rise in positive emotion, the bond between the person increases and helps strengthen love, and the individual feels like staying close to one another. On the other hand, the rise in negative emotion may lead to individuals distancing from one another.

What methods did they use?

In this research, there was the conduction of experiment on a selected group sample. The chosen people were from different groups; some were those abandoned and neglected by their family members, while others lived in harmony with their parents. The data was conducted based on positive and negative emotions and analysis. Based on the importance of the social bond research, the social isolation of individuals does not only led to poor health and well-being but also inhibits the development of social, emotional, and cognitive skills.

What were the most meaningful findings the authors reported?

The author’s finding identified the nature of the social function. It stated that the social process of emotion is said to have an evolutionary origin. The culture and the social norms are the core aspects that lead to the evolution of emotion. Emotion regulation and standards play a core role in understanding the reason behind the success of life is essential. For a human being to thrive in life requires a social life. Emotion helps a person in establishing and maintaining cooperation and harmony with other and other social groups. In this stage, sentiment is given the role of affiliation. Based on the distancing function of the feeling, the feeling helps a person distance themselves from others regarding social status and power. The sentiment’s social effect is based on how it is expressed in the social and cultural context. The aspect of anger from the emotion is expressed in many ways, such as shouting, criticizing, or keeping quiet. The sentiment is well known to vary in different cultural contexts. The distancing function in the emotional context symbolizes isolation and social fear.

On the other hand, the affiliation aspect is based on happiness and other positive emotions such as love and gratitude. The feeling has a preference on the individual goal and social situation. Despite the sentiment having a social function, it has a social effect, which is predicted based on relational goals. Contempt, anger, and hate can be a social function in case an individual is predicted

What is one limitation of their study?

In this study, several limitations arose. First, the research did not disclose the relationship between emotion and individual success. The participant of this study based the experiment on a particular experience regarding feeling. This indicates that it could have been subjected to errors as some people could have given a piece of misleading information based on the background. In addition, the sample size was small. The experiment used 480 individuals; this small sample size could have given bias when acting as a representative of the entire population. In addition, the research did not show the functionality of emotion in regulating legal and social norms.

How do the findings from this study help you better understand the content from this week?

The finding played an essential understanding of the role that emotion plays concerning individual success. Based on the sentiment, I have come to know how we can deal with the problems in the social environment by either increasing on reducing the psychological or distancing from one another. In our daily activities, I realize that positive emotions such as happiness and pride or love usually strengthen social bonds and may be used in decision-making. Thus through this research, I can appreciate the aspect of emotion based on the culture and social norms. Emotion has a tremendous role in producing success and solving a dispute.

Quality of Service:

As you craft your initial post, you will be using information from your texts, along with conducting independent research with sources outside of the required texts. Start your discussion with the following:

  • What is quality of service (QoS) and why is it important to an organization?
  • Based on your research, how do security measures used by an organization impact QoS?
  • Provide three security controls that will benefit an organization but also impact productivity?
  • Based on the above research, what is more important in your opinion, QoS or security?

Keep in Mind: You will need to perform independent research beyond the course text materials in order to discuss and explain the elements of a comprehensive and well-thought-out position. Consider all facets that are necessary to be proactive and successful in evaluating not only what is happening now, but also the potential future landscape.

Submission Requirements and Resources

  • In order to facilitate group discussion and take into account the varying student schedules, please post original responses by Day 3 of the Week at 11:59 pm CST.  Discussion boards will close Day 7 of the week at 11:59 pm CST each week.
  • Head over to the resources page, Discussion Criteria: Submissions and Engagement. to view specific discussion requirements, examples, and the discussion rubric.

A HINT about Conference Discussion at the Masters Level: Try to get your initial post in early in the conference week and dialogue with your classmates through the conference week.   Think of our online as discussion in a traditional classroom.

  • Posting your initial post and your responses at the last moments of the discussion week would be similar to entering a traditional classroom and discussion with 10 minutes left in the class – missing the discussion and dialogue raised by your classmates. Remember,  the intent of our conference discussion is to drive the discussion to the next level…  the Masters Level of scholarly discussion.
  • Also…  posting early has its benefit, as you do not want to say the same thing that a classmate states. Finally – please  use academic citations to fortify your position

The Year of Magical Thinking

The Year of Magical Thinking

https://geniusproessays.com/

The Year of Magical Thinking:

Answer three of the following. You will be graded on thoroughness (write like a boss!), creativity, and insightfulness.

· In relation to Didion’s The Year of Magical Thinking and Buffy (in Buffy the Vampire Slayer ) how do humans show various reactions to sudden death (or sudden realization of another’s death)? Using your choice of concepts from class, how do Joan and Buffy struggle with the sudden reality that, as Joan puts it, “life changes in the ordinary instant?”

· Regarding the death of a loved one, how is it virtually impossible for a survivor (who truly loved the departed) NOT to experience some type of survival guilt ? Drawing upon Joan Didion in The Year of Magical Thinking and Conrad Jarrett in Ordinary People , as well as your choice of concepts, is survival guilt necessary to experience as one tries to recover? How can a person grow from such guilt?

· In specific regard to Rabbit Hole , how is interpersonal grief among intimates(experienced by Howie and Becca together) complicated? Using lecture concepts of your choice, how would you characterize Howie and Becca in regard to how they are dealing with traumatic loss? What are signs of trouble and signs of hope for them in regard to the shared future as an intimate couple?

· What is the myth of closure and how does it relate to grief? What specific complications associated with grief and the myth of closure, in your opinion, most affected Becca/Howie (in Rabbit Hole ) and Conrad (in Ordinary People )? Again, in your opinion, did Becca/Howie and Conrad reach closure? How so (or how not so)?

· In regard to the segment from Friday Night Lights and the death of Matt Saracen’s father, select any concepts of your choice and describe the process that Matt goes through as he struggles to deal with his father’s death. What do you see as Matt’s major struggle and why do you see it as a major struggle?
