PROMPT ONE – Directions:

1. Summarize Marx’s concepts of alienated labor.

2. Google “great resignation of 2022” and summarize the issue in your own words.

3. Describe how alienated labor directly connects to this movement.

4. Explain how you feel about this connection. And tell the reader why you feel is it important to talk about labor issues.

1. Summarize maquiladora according to the Navarrete reading and explain the benefits to workers and companies.

2. Elaborate on the negative effects they have on women, the Mexican economy, and the Mexican environment.

3. How do maquiladoras connect to Marx’s concepts of Alienated Labor?

4. Explain how you feel about this. Why should we, in Southern California, be concerned with what happens in other countries?

 

Prompt Three – Directions:

1. Summarize the problems of maquiladoras related to laborers or the local environment.

Prompt Four – Let’s talk about Race-Based Horror in non-fiction!!! Have you seen the Jordan Peele film Get Out? If so, you might like to write on this prompt! – Directions:

1. Summarize the concepts (not the plot) of Bell’s Space Traders.

2. Summarize the concepts from the film Get Out. **

3. Compare how Space Traders and Get Out articulate White society’s exploitation of Black Americans?

4. Why do Bell and Peele make use of alternative stories as a good platform to untangle racial issues?

**If you’re unfamiliar with Get Out, other race-based horror you can discuss instead: Tales from The Hood, Bones, His House, Tales From The Crypt: Demon Knight, Vampires Vs.
