1. In chapter 28, read from Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein (reading 5.9).
As per Fiero, “What are the dangers of “the acquirements of knowledge” according to Dr. Frankenstein?

2.In the Emily Dickinson section of the 1800’s module, reread the following poems by Emily Dickinson: Because I Could Not Stop for Death, There is a Certain Slant of Light, There is Another Sky, I’m Nobody! Who are You?, I Started Early, and Nobody Knows This Little Rose.

From those pick your favorite and do the following:

1.) Write down the name of the poem.

2.) In two or three complete sentences state why you like the poem and what it has to say to you.

3.) Cut and paste in four lines from the poem. In two or three complete sentences state what those lines are saying.

3. Look at Paul Cezanne’s The Large Bathers (Figure 32.1) and Pablo Picasso’s Les Demoiselles d’Avignon (Figure 32.2), both in Fiero.

Other than the fact they are both painting and that they were painted within a year of each other…write three things the works have in common and three ways the works are different. Be as specific as you can.

Use complete sentences for each of your six — three/commom and three differences — listings.

4.As per the book The Humanities Through the Arts, “Contemporary rituals such as some weddings and funerals involve motion that can be thought of as dance motion.” What is another contemporary ritual that involves dance motion?

“Do we need to know the meanings of the ritual gestures in order to appreciate the motion of the ritual?” Why or why not?
