Threats To Species

Threats To Species

Reply to two prompts in 100 words each. No sites needed, these are just thoughts on the prompts.    (Original prompt for your consideration, Think back to your previous experiences and prior knowledge with respect to threats to species and ecosystems. Threats to species.

https://geniusproessays.com/

  • What do you know about threats to species?
  • What has been your experience with threats to species?
  • How do you think the experiences you have described so far have impacted your knowledge and perceptions about threats to species?
  • How do you think learning about threats to species will impact your future career in environmental science? )

Prompt 1: I think that is the first thing I learned as a young adult about environmental science. Every textbook says this species is endangered, and hundreds more are at risk. As a young adult, this would create anxiety for me, and I believe a young woman coined the term “eco-anxiety.” I experience almost daily with climate change and water issues etc.

In my local area, there was a threat to a tree species. A few years ago, there was so much coverage at talk about a species of bugs that targeted and destroyed this certain tree species. I remember we couldn’t go to our favorite park for months. Experiencing the loss of hundreds of trees personally and as a child, it was, in a way, traumatic because you feel so helpless in it all. And that experience made me aware of how fragile and quickly a species of any can could go away. My experience and eco-anxiety have created a passion and fire for this work. I guess you would say a sense of nobility towards starting this career. It impacts my perspective, sense of urgency, and compassion to create a more extensive field around environmental science and see it as very much-needed work.

Prompt 2: Threats to species are factors that can affect the lifestyle or survival of a living thing. Threats can be something within the specific ecosystem or something exterior such as a natural disaster, climate change, or invasive species. These factors can change the way one species functions and forces it to either adapt or go extinct.

My experience with threats to species is probably like most of you. Every year there seems to be another major animal that is being affected due to human-made threats. If we look at recent years, the threat of extinction has become very real for species like rhinos and blue whales. Both species are affected by climate change but more specifically humans. They are poached by hunters and caught in commercial fishing lines and nets. Ultimately, my experience with threats to species is through the media. However, I am aware of what is going on around us.

These experiences have influenced my passion for wildlife and are the reason I want to continue my studies in marine biology. I want to use my knowledge and the new information I am learning to try and promote change.

As we have progressed through this course, the content has continued to build on itself. We are using the information we learned from every week and every lesson to progress our knowledge and understanding.

“The White Cat” by Madame d’Aulnoy (France, 1697), available here: Reflection.

https://geniusproessays.com/

https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Fairy_Tales_by_the_Countess_d%27Aulnoy/The_White_Cat

Consider the following questions to help you read carefully and critically: Reflection

  • Keep in mind our discussion of motifs and morphology (plot structure). As you read, note any resemblances between “The White Cat” and other fairy tales you’re familiar with? What motifs do you recognize from other stories? Does “The White Cat” share any plot structures with other stories you know?
  • Why does the king set a task for his sons? Is the reason he tells them the true reason for his decision? What themes are set up by this way of beginning the story? Based on the opening, what expectations do you have for the story?
  • How does the young Prince meet the white cat? How is her world (her palace, her community, their behavior and customs) described? Why do you think the author chose to include these details?
  • What are the three tasks the king sets for his sons? How does the youngest Prince win out over his brothers?
  • On the Prince’s third visit to the white cat’s palace, what shocking request does the white cat make and why? Why do you think the author included images of violence in this otherwise whimsical tale?
  • What secret does the white cat reveal about her origins and family? What do we learn about her parents? How do you think we are meant to view their characters, and judge each of their actions? How do you know?
  • What do we learn was the reason that the white cat was transformed by the fairies? How does the author create sympathy for the white cat, and ensure that we are on her side? (Consider the way her character has been established, the descriptions of the fairies and their actions, the description of the love between her and her beloved King, etc.)
  • We’ve all heard many stories in which someone (usually a woman) has to be rescued from a terrible fate by her true love. What twist does Madame d’Aulnoy give to this motif? What are the conditions for the white cat to be transformed? What do you think this is supposed to teach us?
  • What moral is proposed at the end of the story? Do you agree that this is what the story demonstrates?

???? To get us started thinking carefully about the meaning of “The White Cat,” let’s begin by examining its connections to other stories. Reflection

Identify a motif or plot element in “The White Cat” that you recognize from another story. This could be another fairy tale, or any other story you’re familiar with (including a movie or a video game).
—Post to the forum below, quoting the relevant passage from “The White Cat” or paraphrase it in your own words – include the page number in parentheses (in the online text of the story, page numbers are listed in the left margin next to the text).—Name the story that shares this motif/plot element, briefly explaining the connection. Reflection
For this activity, we’ll discuss in groups of 4. The groups have been randomly assigned and are built into this activity. In the discussion forum below, you’ll see the posts of your other group members. Before posting, read the contributions of your group members, and make sure that you add a new example in your post that hasn’t been mentioned yet. —Each group member will receive 5 pts for contributing their example (if all guidelines listed above are met). Reflection
BONUS: If you see multiple examples, you can add additional posts (following the same guidelines). If your group comes up with 8 or more examples, collectively, everyone gets 5 bonus points.????

Cost-Volume-Profit Analysis

Overview

Cost-Volume-Profit Analysis: The next step in planning for your new business is to analyze the cost behaviors and systems of your industry and conduct the relevant financial calculations to determine appropriate costing solutions. In this milestone assignment, you will conduct a break-even analysis to determine your target profits and the selling price you plan to use to achieve these profits for each product.

https://geniusproessays.com/

Prompt: Cost-Volume-Profit Analysis

Use information from Milestone One and the provided Milestone Two Market Research Data Appendix Word Document to conduct a cost-volume profit analysis. Complete the “Contribution Margin Analysis” and “Break-Even Analysis” tabs in the Project Workbook Spreadsheet that you used for completing the Milestone One assignment.

Specifically, you must address the following rubric criteria:

  • Contribution Margin. Determine your contribution margin per unit in the “Contribution Margin Analysis” tab.
    • Choose a sales price for each product.
    • Calculate the contribution margin for each product based on your sales price and the variable cost for that product. Show your work using calculations to the side of the table or using appropriate formulas in the table.
  • Break-Even Analysis. Use cost-volume-profit (CVP) analysis to determine your break-even points for achieving your target profits in the “Break-Even Analysis” tab.
    • Determine the break-even points for each product. Show your work using calculations to the side of the table or using appropriate formulas in the table.
    • Determine break-even units for the suggested target profits for each product. Show your work using calculations to the side of the table or using appropriate formulas in the table.
